Certified or Notarized?

Before we delve into the question of "what type of translation I need", we first need

to understand what the difference is between the two types of translation.

A certified translation is a translation made by a person proficient in the language pair, meaning anyone who can read and speak the language can do it. All they have to do is write a short statement with their name, address, and that they are proficient in the language.

A notarized translation is when a person goes before a notary and signs the statement in front of the notary.

Now that we establish that, let's delve deeper into this...

For example, for immigration purposes, a certified translation is typically enough. Technically, you can give it to anyone to translate and sign a declaration added at the bottom of the page or on a separate page.

So, why do you need a translation company if anyone can do that?

Aside from the reasons I mentioned in my previous post about what makes a translator a great translator, there is the issue of formatting knowledge.

There are several rules that a translator must follow to avoid being considered a forger. For example, if you copy and paste the state's insignia or emblem from the document, the translation will be rejected and will be counted as a forgery. Add to that that the translator signs it as well - and it's his confession.

In a notarized translation, the notary does not approve of the correctness of the translation, but they confirm the identity of the signer. That's it!

So, why do you need a notarized translation?

First, educational institutes such as schools, colleges, and universities demand that the translation be notarized. Furthermore, some educational institutions require the notarized translation to be delivered directly to them from the translation agency in a sealed envelope.

Second, some immigration lawyers or brokers ask that documents, such as certificates and bank statements, be notarized to add credibility.

Third, when you go to any governmental institute, such as the Social Security office, or the documents are meant to be used in a court on a legal procedure, the translation must be notarized, to show that they were made by someone else, and to diminish the probability of changes in the translation.
